Description of Services Provided
Pharmacy Network Services provides comprehensive pharmacy services to our customer base. Pharmacy Network Services can provide all routine medications, but also has the purchasing relationships with multiple drug distribution centers to obtain unusual and specialty medications not typically stocked in a pharmacy (HIV, cancer treatment, etc.). Pharmacy Network Services can order any medications not stocked and, in most cases, have them delivered within one day. Pharmacy Network Services employs a full-time resource for pharmacy drug purchasing. This resource manages the pharmacy inventory to ensure adequate supplies are on hand, but also works to obtain the best prices from wholesalers to help manage the costs for both pharmacy and facility. Daily orders from customers are faxed to Pharmacy Network Services and received in the fax server. The fax server stores all incoming faxes as PDF files. Each file is tagged with the name of the sending facility based on the incoming fax number, and a scheduled delivery time is automatically added to the record by the system based on each individual facility's daily delivery schedule. Technicians can then view all open orders and prioritize those worked first by their scheduled delivery time.
Pharmacy Network Services utilizes the four-step workflow process to dispense medications with a high degree of accuracy and proficiency, yet still manages to offer personalized service to our customer base. All new orders are reviewed by a pharmacist before being filled. The pharmacist checks to make sure the order entered in the pharmacy system matches the fax order, and also looks for duplication of therapy and drug interactions. The orders are then sent to be filled in AutoMed packaging or blister cards, or through the bulk order fill process. Once orders are filled by certified pharmacy technicians, a pharmacist performs a final check of the order and places the order in a package labeled for the facility.
On-Site Support Services and Availabilities
Pharmacy Network Services establishes several points of contact that remain available to our facilities:
- Primary Pharmacy Technician first point of contact for orders
- Secondary Pharmacy Technician- assigned as backup to primary
- Pharmacists available for clinical issues
- Production Analyst available for questions involving drug pricing, formulary, etc.
- Delivery Manager available for equipment (fax machines, med carts) support or delivery concerns
- Account Manager first point of contact for all special requests, concerns, planning, any on-site support not involving equipment.
- President / CEO available for strategic planning, high level status reviews, or any concerns or issues the facility feels have not been adequately addressed at other levels.
Packaging Options
Pharmacy Network Services utilizes AutoMed compliance packaging technology or USP-approved blister cards. Both systems provide an accurate means of packaging medications and help to reduce medications errors. These packaging systems also position the pharmacy and its customers to take full advantage of future technological advances, such as bedside bar-code verification. AutoMed packaging enhances medication compliance, and minimizes the threat of liability on the part of any of our institutions. (read more)
Pharmacy Network Services recommends AutoMed compliance packaging, which offers the most accurate and convenient means of providing medications to patients or inmates and helps to reduce medication errors. Realizing that some facilities prefer traditional blister card packaging, Pharmacy Network Services allows the choice of either packaging system. Either packaging system enhances compliance and minimizes the threat of liability on the part of our facilities. Additional benefits of Pharmacy Network Services AutoMed dispensing system include:
- AutoMed packages provide a convenient means of sending medications with patients when needed off site
- Seven-day supply means fewer medications are stored on site vs. the traditional 30-day supply
- No pharmacy tech is needed on-site to prepare medications
- The AutoMed chronological packaging provides a secondary means of verifying dose administration as it is tracked on the MAR
- AutoMed unit dose packaging allows bar coding
Pharmacy Network Services blister card (bubble pack) system offers:
- Blister cards are USP Class B tamper-proof cards
- Cards can be color-coded to determine time of day for administration
- Blister cards provide a maximum 30-day supply of medications
- Cards are reverse-numbered to allow for easy administration audits
Delivery
Pharmacy Network Services will set up a scheduled delivery time as part of our implementation process that is mutually acceptable to our facility and our operations team.
